Which Guest Lecturer inspired you the most with their insight into Industry and why?The leadership and diversity workshop facilitated by Ian Jones, his exposure and experiences across multi-cultural environments was a very fulfilling lesson. As a leader, we need to continually self-introspect towards ensuring our teams stay motivated and embarrassing diversity remains a key facet of this engagement. In a country as diverse as South Africa, it is all the more relevant towards achieving a shared and mutually beneficial goal.

In 2012 in order to recertify I needed to either complete a portfolio of evidence of service to the industry or write the exam again, I chose to write again and surprisingly passed. Next time round there is no doubt I will attend that years GM’s workshop, not only will it give me the opportunity to go over the work content, but also network with like minded professionals.

Managing Executive: Hospitality and Retail Bidvest Prestige
I have recently had the privilege of working with Paul and his team at the International Hotel School, to complete my Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) designation. From beginning to end the assistance and guidance offered was world class and helped me to navigate my way through the course with determination and success. From my earliest days in the industry as a management trainee, I always looked up to the only CHAs in the country with awe. There were only 2 that I recall in 1989 and I think they both worked at The Carlton Hotel. The course facilitation sessions were well prepared and delivered by visiting industry executives and individuals with a passion for formal learning that goes beyond the classroom. The content was massively relevant and the course material still remains at the forefront of what the industry holds relevant and important. I must warn you however, that this is not for the fain hearted. Many long hours of preparation for the exam are required, as is a solid foundation of skills honed after many years in hospitality, or you will find yourself short of the very high and exacting standards set by the AHLEI.
I am proud to be associated and recognized by the International Hotel School Training and the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute as it represents the realization of a very long term personal objective that has finally come to fruition.
